Google’s Webmaster Central Blog has SEO instructions, and two of them relate to social media:

• Attract buzz and natural links, votes, +1s, follows

• Stay fresh and relevant (social media sites, accessible on new devices)

When you blog you are adding fresh content to your site, and when you use social media you stay relevant. To attract followers you need to be entertaining or provide useful information. We try and do both!

A great resource for free Social Marketing Media kits and webinars is HubSpot. HubSpot ultimately wants to sell you their software, but they have great information and are industry leaders in social marketing.
